It wasn’t so long ago that a new phenomenon like Fortnite got everybody obsessed with their consoles playing the game.
Almost every kid was playing it when they came home from school, and while the hype has cooled since its release five years ago.
Its still a popular game with millions of active players each day.
Having played the game myself on several occasions, I have learned firsthand how enjoyable it is.
However, it did make me think, what if you could play it and earn money while doing so.
That would be pretty cool, right, getting paid to do something you are passionate about?
Well, from my findings, there are plenty of ways to turn a casual session of Fortnite into a nice little earner.
I don’t want to spoil the post too much, but I can tell you some people are making as much as millions a year, and all there doing is playing the game.
In this post, I want to share with you some websites that will pay you to play Fortnite.
None of them cost anything to get started with, giving you a free and accessible way to earn as you build forts.
So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Table of Contents
What Is Fortnite?
Fortnite is a battle royale game launched in 2017 by Epic Games.
The game soared in popularity, reaching 1 million registered users in a month of launch.
Fast forward to today, and despite the rumors, the game has fallen off. It now has a whopping 350 million users.
The reason for its success ultimately stems from how simple the game is, its being free, and the cartoon themes.
When you play a game, you have 100 users dropped into a map full of places.
This map will slowly shrink until only one user is left.
With the last remaining user being crowned the winner of that game of Fortnite battle royale.
1. Twitch
Twitch is a streaming platform full of creators playing different games to entertain people online.
Not only are games like Fortnite being streamed here, but you have just chatting and even the controversial hot tub streams.
But what will be of interest to someone like yourself who is trying to earn money by playing Fortnite is its more than doable via Twitch.
A well-known name in the field, Ninja, who has been streaming games like Fortnite for several years, has made a whopping $500,000 a month.
By showcasing himself playing the game to his 18 million subscribers, he has earned through ad revenue, sponsorships, and even his merch.
While I know Ninja is an extreme example of someone making a killing through playing the game.
There is potential for anyone to make money on the platform, and the great thing is all you need is a webcam and, ideally, a game console/PC if you want to stream Fortnite.
There have been a lot of people saying Twitch is losing its popularity. However, on the site, it is still getting 140k watchers most of the day.
So if you could attract just a fraction of those viewers to watch you, you could easily make a side income.
2. Buff
From doing some research, I came across a site called Buff. game that rewards gamers who play PC games.
Now, for those who prefer console gaming, this likely won’t be for you.
You will need to match the specifications of a PC that is required in order to run Buff on your computer.
However, if you are a fit, there is much to get interested in with this website.
As gamers don’t need to do anything else but play one of the games they support, which includes Fortnite.
Buff. game primarily works by tracking your time and activity.
In exchange for letting them learn more about your gaming activity, they reward you through Buff coins, which can be exchanged for gift cards.
Its not all about sitting back and just playing games, though, as there is a competitive aspect about it too.
As the more victories you attain, the more you will make according to them.
Also, completing in-game challenges will help you rack up Buff coins faster.
In total, there are six ways to earn, and along with those two, users can make by collecting daily rewards, watching ads, spinning a buff wheel, referring others, and subscribing to their premium service.
However, the good thing is subscribing is optional, with the service being free for anyone to earn while playing.
3. YouTube
YouTube hasn’t just become a place for people who play Fortnite to use to make money.
But its become a place where anyone can create videos on anything and leverage the reach on the platform to make money.
You can make money in multiple ways with YouTube, plus it gives you the freedom to create the content you wish to make.
So if you want to play Fortnite, talk about updates on the game or teach people how to play, you can do whatever you like.
This can be monetized primarily through the popular ad-revenue model on the site, where you get paid when people watch ads during your videos.
Its not just that, as YouTube is a platform where you can grow a loyal community.
So if you wanted to, you could take your viewers to other places like TikTok, and Twitch, where you can diversify your income streams.
Like the other ways in this list, this is free to start with.
In fact, you don’t even need a webcam as you would ideally need with Twitch.
As you could broadcast yourself playing games like Fortnite, with you talking over it.
4. Instagram + TikTok
If you an avid Fortnite player or even love following the game, then two platforms to use to your advantage are Instagram and TikTok.
Social media has literally changed the game, making it possible for someone to build a following for themself out of nothing.
So with these platforms, you could build up a following by posting Fortnite content and make money.
With both platforms, you could do sponsorships with companies, including potentially Fortnite.
You can also use it to funnel traffic to something you would like to sell.
For instance, let’s say you were a top Fortnite player, you could offer some coaching.
If you are decent at the game, this could be something that people who are following you could be interested in.
This is just one example, though.
There are many different avenues you could go down.
But it starts with building a targeted audience on social media.
Platforms like TikTok and Instagram are just a few examples.
If your interest is Fortnite, that’s the kind of content you will want to share.
As that is what will attract people who follow and play the game.
5. Esports
ESports is a very lucrative way to make money as a Fortnite player.
If you think you’re good enough and can win games of Fortnite with relative ease, its something that is worth looking into
Especially when you consider that there’s been over $130,000,000 in payouts given by the owners of the game Epic Games alone.
These figures not only show you why the interest is so high but also that esports is something that will only get bigger.
Now with that said, its worth knowing it isn’t the easiest scene to get into.
In many ways, its quite similar to professional sports in that it takes dedication, the right mentality, and a lot of skill.
This is why the kids who are winning at the big stage in Fortnite have been grinding the game constantly.
This is why, despite the huge potential to make lots of money, I have included this a little further down on the list.
As similar to playing Fifa its probably the hardest way to make money through Fortnite if you have recently picked up the game.
6. PlayVIG
PlayVIG is another platform that pays users to play games.
This, of course, includes Fortnite, the popular League Of Legends, and the Rocket League.
Now this one works by clipping up your gameplays and creating montages for you to watch back.
When you do this, you will earn coins which you can use to redeem for various prizes.
Some decent stuff is up for grabs, from PayPal and Amazon vouchers to actual game consoles.
Like all the websites on this list, PlayVIG is free to join, however, its not so easy to sign up for.
First, you must request an invite by submitting your email to them.
You will be invited to use the site and earn money if you are seen as a good fit.
Like Buff, you will need a PC has its not compatible with consoles, you will also need to meet the requirements for the games.
This is to make sure that PlayVIG can track your results.
Q1: How Old Do You Have To Be To Earn Money In Fortnite?
Ideally, to make money playing Fortnite, you will want to be at least 13 years old.
This isn’t just because of the terms on some websites when it comes to ages.
But also because of the fact that if you are under that age, its much better to just play for fun as someone younger than 13 doesn’t really need to make money at all.
Saying that a site like YouTube is a great example of a platform that accommodates all ages.
So no matter if you are over 13 or under, you can create a platform for yourself.
Of course, the only condition is that you must have parental permission if you are under that age.
If you have that, then by all means, with your help, you can create content around Fortnite and ultimately make money.
Many kids on the platform are making money, with one of the highest earners being a 9-year-old called Ryan Kaji, who has racked up $30 million.
As for other websites, you will need to pay more attention to the age requirement, as they won’t all be as accommodating.
The two gaming sites I listed each require you to be 18+ to make the most of the platforms.
While social media in TikTok and Instagram require you to be at least 13+ to make an account, regardless of parental permission.
So even though kids can make money playing Fortnite, if you are not quite a teen or you have a kid who is interested, it may be worth holding back for the moment.
Q2: How Hard Is It To Win Money In Fortnite?
Winning money in Fortnite through competitions is not the easiest thing to do.
This is because your average player is quite good at the game; therefore, it requires you to be very good at Fortnite to win competitions.
Playing competitions with a smaller sum of money up for grabs will probably translate into it being easier.
However, at an esports level which is essentially the highest level, to win money, you need to be an elite player that is better than the rest.
Kyle Giersdorf is a player who has won over $3 million from playing Fortnite, becoming a very successful player.
But to win those sums of money, he quite literally had to beat the best.
So I guess the question is more on how much you are trying to win, as it will be doable to win a bit of money through taking in part in local tournaments.
But if you are trying to win 6-7 figures, you will need to be very good at the game to get close to those amounts.
Conclusion
As you can see from this reading this post there are many ways that you can get yourself out there and start making money online playing Fortnite.
The 6 ways I have included in this list, all offer a decent way to get started, however as I have explained some of the options are much easier to get into then others.
If you are someone who is new to Fortnite, then something like PlayVIG and Buff, are worth checking out.
The social media sites are the next step up, which offer a better earning potential, however, will require more work and depending on the site you choose to show your face too.
Lastly you have eSports which has fantastic potential, however, ideally, you need to be someone who is very experienced with the game.
